What does Botox do to your body?

What is Botox?

Botox is made from a neurotoxin and produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botox has been growing in popularity since the 1980’s when the FDA first approved the procedure. Wrinkles have been something people dread getting and will do a lot to look younger, especially in the United States.

Botox gets injected into specific areas/muscles with a fine needle and only minimal and short discomfort is felt. Botox works fast and you can see results as soon as immediately, but most results will be seen within 3-7 days. Once the bacterium is in the muscle, it can no longer contract which is what helps with wrinkles and lines.

How is Botox performed?

Botox is a quick and painless procedure. It doesn’t require any anesthesia. Most common side effects are mild swelling, redness, and bruising. These side effects don’t last long and your doctor can monitor them. Most commonly people get a botox injection on their crow’s feet, which is the wrinkles on the corner’s of their eyes, frown lines, or on their forehead.

How long will Botox last?

Most botox procedures last anywhere from four to six months but can vary from patient to patient. Botox isn’t a permanent procedure and you will need to keep up with it if you don’t want to show any signs of the wrinkles.
